06/26 - Disturbance at Love's Truck Stop - Road rage incident. No charges were filed.

06/26 - Public Intoxication - 3 subjects were arrested at the Troy Food Mart for Public Intoxication after a citizen called in on them.

06/30 - Suspicious Circumstance - Lisa Cr - Homeowner advised that he thought unknown subjects were entering his house. There was no evidence of any entry.

06/30 - Theft at Love's Truck Stop - Subject claimed his wallet was stolen while he was at the station. Case is inactive due to lack of investigative leads.

07/02 - Disturbance on Front St. - No charges were filed. Argument between father and son.

07/05 - Dead Animal / Church St. - Dead dog was located on Church Street. Dog was picked up and will be disposed of.

07/05 - Minor Accident / IH 35 S/B - 2 vehicle accident w/o injuries. Report on file.

Slow Down!

The Troy Police Department will be engaged in a week long selective traffic enforcement program that ends July 6th. Our primary focus will be on speeding vehicles. The intent of this program is to promote compliance and awareness of the posted speed limits, thus reducing the number of speed related accidents. Please do the right thing and observe the posted speed limit.

K9 Benny is home!

After a long and boring drive to McNeal, AZ and back, K9 Benny and Sgt. David Lowry are ready to get to work. We are confident that "Benny" will be a great tool for the police department and the community. To all the local dope heads running through town, please consider an alternative place to engage in your pathetic addictions. Remember, choices have consequences! If you decide to delve into drug related activity within the city limits of Troy, I am sure that "Benny" would enjoy the reward. As always, please buckle up for safety!

Scammers are always looking for ways to take advantage of someone. They use all kinds of tactics. Some will call an individual claiming to be a representative of a bank or organization. There are those that send letters attempting to get your credit card information by asking you to call their toll free number. There are scammers that will use cell phones and email to deploy their tactics. Their intent is to obtain as much information about you and your accounts so they can defraud you. Please remember that most banking institutions would not ask for your bank account or credit card number. Why would they need to do this? They already have this information. As a matter of fact, most legitimate banking institutions have implemented security measures to protect you. Take advantage of these measures and protect yourself.

06/18 - Civil Disturbance on E. Main Street

06/18 - Domestic Violence on Ellis Street - Subject arrested and transported to Bell County Jail

06/20 - Domestic Violence on Christine St. - Matter was settled by one party leaving.

06/21 - Assault BI at Exxon - Matter involved 2 male subjects. One subject was severeley injured as a result and transported to the hospital. Case is still under investigation.

06/21 - Warrant Service on Aikman St. - Subject arrested for outstanding warrants and transported to the Bell County Jail.

Something to think about!

On 06/19/09 an Officer with the Troy Police Department was dispatched to a violent domestic in town. Upon his arrival, the Officer found a highly intoxicated subject that was naked trying to start a fire inside his house. This subject had already soaked the floor with lighter fluid and was attempting to ignite the fluid, along with a bag of charcoal, with a lighter and a taser. Quick actions by the officer resulted in the offender being apprehended and transported to the Bell County Jail after a thorough investigation confirmed an act of family violence. It's unfortunate that things like this occur in our society. Studies have found that alcohol effects the mind. If one chooses to consume alcoholic beverages, please drink responsibly.

Summer is Here!

The days of school are now gone and we are two weeks into the summer. Road trips are being planned, vacations are just around the corner, and finding shelter from the Texas heat is now an everyday adventure. What is there to do in Troy during the summer? Most folks would tell you there's not much. Ask a child, and he or she would just laugh at you. Being bored can only go on for so long before a child seeks some type of adventure. Just within the last two weeks, the Troy Police Department has dealt with kids who have decided to resort to criminal trespass, criminal mischief, underage smoking, and curfew violations. What can we do as a community to counter such things. Doing nothing will not make it any better. Any suggestions?

Weekly Police Activity

For the week ending 06/14/09.

1. Theft of a 4 wheeler at the Troy HS Bus Barn. Subjects gained entry by cutting the back fence. Please contact the police department with any information about this case. 254-938-0100

2. Arrest: - POCS PG3<28g / Unlawful Possession of a firearm by felon.

3. Minor accident at Love's Truck Stop.

4. One vehicle accident on IH 35 S/B @ MP 306. No injuries reported.

5. Accident on IH 35 @ MP 309.

6. Criminal Mischief on Old Hwy 81. Officer made contact with juvenile subjects and the matter is in the process of being resolved.

7. Damaged Property at the Troy Exxon. Vehicle struck corner of building.

8. Criminal Mischief - Unknown subject threw eggs at a residence. Complainant could not positively identify the suspect(s).

9. Suspicious Persons - Juvenile subjects found inside building at the corner of Main and Central. No damage reported.

Troy Volunteer Fire Department Fund Raiser

The Troy Volunteer Fire Department had it's 1st annual fundraiser at Trojan Park on Saturday. There was a live band and lots of food to eat. The Troy Exxon sponsored this event and was able to provide all of the food. According to the Troy Fire Chief, the fire department was able to raise approximately $800.00. It's an honor to have individuals who are willing to make such a sacrifice for the community. The Troy Police Department would like to give a BIG thanks to the Troy VFD for their service to our community. Thank you for everything you do!

The Rest of the Story

Familiar? We have all seen something like this. Maybe, one has actually struck livestock on the roadway. Hopefully, they escaped with their life without serious bodily injury. Now, multiply the number of cows on the road several times and place them on the roadway at night on the other side of a hill. This is what the Troy Police Department and the Bell County Sheriff's Department were faced with on 04/16/2009. An article was written by the Troy Country Sun about this event and published on 06/11/09. After reading this article, the Troy Police Department believes it's appropriate to note some additional facts about the event in question.

#1 - There were 2 officers who were on the scene attempting to round up cattle that were on FM 935 at 11:38 PM. One was a Troy Police Officer and the other was a Bell County Sheriff's Deputy.

#2 - On arrival, The Troy Police officer spoke with a neighbor across the street and was told the cows probably belonged to a subject who lived across from him.

#3 - Noting this, the Troy Police Officer made several calls to the alleged owner in an attempt to establish ownership. However, these calls, followed by several attempts to wake him by knocking on his door, were unsuccessful. This information was documented in the call sheet.

#4 - There was also an effort to locate a break in a fence, which was unsuccessful.

#5 - The deputy sheriff opened the subjects gate in an attempt to get the cows off the roadway before a major accident occurred. The Troy Police Officer was privy to this information and left a message on the alleged owners answering machine explaining the situation.

The unfortunate thing about all of this is that the cows did not belong to the landowner in question. His yard and garden were torn up. Most individuals facing this predicament would be rightfully angry. However, one must take into consideration the totality of the circumstances the officers were faced with.

Considering all of the circumstances involved in this matter, the Troy Police Department strongly supports the officers that handled this call. However, the Troy Police Department does regret the land owner had to deal with the after effects of the cattle being in his front yard. Our sincere apologies go out to him.

Situations like this can be dangerous. Officers try to be as thorough as possible, but also have to consider the dangers associated with loose livestock on a roadway. Less than 2 weeks prior to this event there was a horse hit on the same roadway. It caused considerable damage to a car and killed the horse.

K9 Benny

We are excited to introduce Troy police Department's first K9 Unit. Benny is a sporting breed dog (Yellow Lab) that was imported from Germany. He is 2 1/2 years old and will be handled by Sergeant David Lowry. Benny will supplement the department well in it's mission to deter drugs within the community of Troy.
